Posted by on April 3rd, 2012

Title: Film Intern

Number of Open Positions: 1

Location: Jessore, Bangladesh

Duration: 8 weeks

Salary: 15,000 Tk/ month (room, board, and transportation within Bangladesh are provided; students are responsible for their own transportation to and from Bangladesh)

Job Description:
Panigram Resort will be a socially and environmentally responsible spa resort located in southern Bangladesh. We are developing a luxury boutique resort with a spa and wellness center that protects the natural and cultural heritage of Bangladesh, provides authentic and distinctive travel experiences to discerning travelers, promotes sustainable development, and improves the quality of life in the host community. The film intern will be responsible for filming the construction of Panigram and creating small, weekly “webisodes” (up to 10 min) that will be posted on YouTube and our website. Panigram Resort is still under construction, so the interns will be staying in apartments in Jessore City, which is about an hour’s drive from the project site. The accommodation is very basic (no air conditioning, basic furnishings and bathrooms, etc.), but it is a fun environment as all of the interns stay together.

Interns are given some basic Bangla lessons when they arrive so that they can communicate with the villagers. The Bangladeshi people are very warm and hospitable and our past interns have formed some strong bonds with the community.

For logistic reasons, we require all of the interns to arrive on June 1 and complete the full 8 week internship ending on July 30; please only apply if you are able to attend on these dates.

Qualifications:
•    Film major
•    Experience with filming and digital film editing

The entrepreneurship intern will work with Panigram, the government, craftsmen, local entrepreneurs, and the women to design business plans and products for the handicraft village, help them apply for microfinance loans, and, where applicable, will work with the architecture intern to design appropriate buildings for their businesses.  Interns also act as ambassadors for Panigram Resort in our host community and are expected to participate in other activities with the villagers such as Friday English lessons with children and movie night.

Hotel Intern from Germany Arrives!

Posted by on March 6th, 2012

Isabel Kasprowiak is a passionate, hard-working hotel student from Germany. She will spend three months in Bangladesh helping us craft an HR policy that aligns with our mission of responsible hospitality.

Isabel Kasprowiak

Isabel Kasprowiak

I am sitting in my Jessore-based office wearing a wonderful pink shalwar kameez (local dress) surrounded by my lovely colleagues who are chatting and laughing. I My name is Isabel Kasprowiak and I am German-Filipino; I was born and raised in Germany. Travelling, experiencing foreign countries, and visiting my Asian relatives has characterized my entire life.

I am a senior in the Saxion Hospitality Business School in Deventer, Netherlands. My study exchange year in Barcelona and my experience working in Bangkok, Ireland, and Spain have instilled in me a diverse understanding of different cultures and people. During my studies I recognized that sustainability is the future of a new, fresh, and innovative hospitality industry. Consequently, the internship with Panigram seemed like a unique opportunity for challenging myself and broadening my horizon. Currently I am working on a sustainable HR strategy for Panigram, and I am actively involved in the recruitment and training process of its staff. The HR strategy will represent Panigram’s mission of being not only environmental, but also socially responsible, consequently we are trying to include as many local staff as possible.

Construction Work Begins!

Posted by on December 23rd, 2011

This is the site of our first bungalow – the “Jackfruit Bungalow” (so named because of its location in our jackfruit grove.) The tree in the middle (not a jackfruit) will unfortunately need to be removed, but we are shifting the bungalow a bit to try to save the nice jackfruit tree at the back. Stay tuned for more construction updates!
