A Picnic for the English Teachers – Deshi Style!

Posted by on December 30th, 2012

A few weeks ago, our students did something unexpectedly delightful; they took it upon themselves to plan a picnic for us!

Now, picnics in Bangladesh are quite different from picnics back home. From the activities to the food to the clothing, it was a whole new experience for me, and so much fun!

Mostly, though, I was impressed by all the thought and organization our students put into the event. They took the initiative and planned every detail, including a colorful tent, music, lovely tableware, delicious food and a cricket match. Honestly, it was more like a catered garden party than a picnic.

The best part: We really got to see our students shine and put their English and hospitality training to use. I can’t wait to see how they perform when they interact with Panigram’s guests!

What celebration would be complete without a silly group photo?

Fresh, Healthy Food at the Panigram Pavilion

My intern Janine spent the summer researching Bangladeshi cooking and creating fusion recipes for the investor meeting at the Panigram Pavilion. All of my guests agreed that the food was amazingly delicious and the perfect blend of east and west. Many of them were surprised, however, to learn that the food was also very healthy!

First Class Fusion Food Inspired by Bangladesh

Posted by on July 20th, 2009

Today Janine created two new fusion dishes inspired by the Bangladeshi food that she has been learning to cook over the past couple of weeks. As the culinary intern, Janine’s responsibility this summer is to infuse Bangladeshi flavors into a new menu at Panigram that is not only delicious, but reflects the resort’s core values of fresh, sustainable, and inspirational. Her first two recipes – Pumpkin Spice Shobji and Banana Cake – definitely meet both requirements.

As a rule, culinary artists rarely achieve perfection with recipes on the first attempt. Today, however, Janine hit the bull’s eye with her Pumpkin Spice Shobji. The simple taste of the pumpkin and the savory flavors of the shallots and garlic complemented the spicy harmony of cinnamon and clove.
